I don't know if any of the other participants at Magnette 60 noticed that I was getting clutch squeal at the weekend. This was a new development and follows other problems with the clutch after switching to the MGB diaphragm version. i.e misalignment of the slave push rod, pulsations in the pedal and concerns about over-throw of the diaphragm spring.
Yesterday I received a (very)cheap inspection camera which I bought to try and see what was going on with the clutch withdrawal bearing. After removing the slave cylinder and rubber boot I managed to insert it alongside the clutch actuating arm and got the attached image.
The carbon is still good as new, the car having only covered about 2000 miles. I found that if I moved the clutch arm back and forth to bring the carbon into contact with the pressure ring there was a solid metallic clunk just BEFORE the carbon made contact and the carbon stopped short of making contact. I made a video of this which I have tried to attach. Unfortunately this cheap camera has no sound so even if the video runs you won't hear the clunk.
Edit: Seems the video file wont load Too big perhaps??
Access through the clutch arm aperture is restricted so I am going to remove the starter motor and see if I can get a better view.
