For MG Car Club Members - Notice of an MGCC Virtual General Meeting on 17th April:
Background - Some MGCC members have been concerned over the governance of the MGCC by the current board of directors in recent months and this culminated in a Council Meeting on 27th March 2021 which was called by a group of seven of the Club’s Centres, Registers and Branches (CRBs).This  meeting was attended by Paul Batho and David Halliday representing the Magnette Register. The outcome was a vote of no confidence in the current board (28 CRBs for, 6 against, 2 abstained), followed on 7th April by the resignation of the current board with the exception of Peter Cook. There will consequently be a General Meeting of the MGCC which will propose a replacement Board be put in place until the next AGM in October 2021.

An overview of the meeting and more detailed information can be found on the V8 Register website. If you wish to attend virtually you'll need to register by 14th April. Only CRB representatives can vote at the meeting but if you have a question or point you wish to raise, please let Paul or David know by phone or using our contact form

There's a new article by Roger England about installing a headlining, in Tech Tips. It provides very detailed step-by-step instructions and comments, so should be very useful if you're considering this task

Many MG enthusiasts will by now have heard of the passing of Guy Maathuis, chairman of MGCC Luxembourg, who was a regular at Magnette events along with his young family. There's a facebook page with many tributes, and Register chairman Paul Batho wrote the following:

"Guy's many Magnette friends are all shocked to hear of his tragic, premature death. He has been a charming and hard-working ambassador for MGs and the MGCC for many years, following in Ton's footsteps. We especially loved to see him, with his whole family in his ZA Magnette, at the annual European Magnette Day wherever it was held across the continent, when every Saturday evening he would lead us on his guitar in a sing-song around the embers of the fire, long into the night. It was also a joy to catch up with him at Silverstone, Beaulieu, the European Event of the Year and many other events. The world will be a much sadder place without him but he will live long in all our memories.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Miriam, Goya, Gene and Greg and of course his mother, Frederike"

There's another addition to our collection of contemporary magazine reviews, thanks to Ian Sykes. This one is from the American publication Motor Trends, December 1954

Seasons Greetings to all Magnette Enthusiasts, and apologies for a lack of new reports this year. We had only one Register event in 2020 (International Magnette Day), so we're looking forward to better prospects of meeting together in 2021. There's a new programme of events, but please check for updates in case it's necessary to change arrangements at short notice because of local restrictions

A couple more copies of Thirty Six Thousand have been scanned, and an interesting 1955 newspaper cutting has been added to our collection of press articles, thanks to Philip Willcock. It features a brief roadtest of the Magnette by the famous racing driver Mike Hawthorn

Former Magnette owner David Taylor generously donated some copies of 'Thirty Six Thousand', the printed magazine of the Magnette Register which was produced from about 1974 to 1988. One issue from 1977 has been scanned (more to follow) and provides an insight into organizational challenges in the early years, as well as some very detailed technical information. Some of the names may be familiar, such as Warren Marsh who is happily still with us !
