Hi Reuben,

Afraid I can't help you much with this one. It sounds as though the ignition lamp is seeing a voltage well above 12v. The only source of volts above 12 is the generator, and the regulator should control this to a maximum of around 16 volts. Unregulated, the generator can produce well over 20v.

Have a look at this page: classicmgaccessories.com/articles/

There is an article by Andy Capy about charging circuits that might give you a clue. He is available for help with this type of electrical problem over the phone or email.

Good luck,

Andy

Hi Andy, New year, new puzzle for me, When I start the engine ignition light glows very bright and burns out instead of fading out as engine revs rise, I have changed voltage reg to try and fix,put a different dynamo on ,on neg earth, and double checked all wiring colours ,connections etc but it still blows the ignition bulb and there is no charge at the battery posts.
Any ideas what is wrong and what to do? Reuben

Hi Andy, Thanks for the guidance, I have checked it all as per your details and it does as you indicate, I am on neg earth as a radio was fitted and there are black/ green and black wires to the wiper switch ,managed to see this with a mirror behind the dash. So it looks like the wiper motor itself is faulty.

Seasons Greetings Reuben

Are you wired +ve or -ve ground? Lets assume you are wired +ve ground as original.

Disconnect the green and green/black wires from the wiper motor.

When the wiper switch is turned "on" the green/black wire at the wiper should go +ve as the switch connects it to ground. When the wiper switch is "off" the green/black wire should be open circuit. The ignition switch has no bearing on this.

The plain green wire should go -ve as soon as the ignition is switched on regardless of the position of the wiper switch.

If you are wired -ve ground the polarities on the two wires will be the opposite of what I have indicated.

Hope this helps and does not confuse,

Andy

Hello Andy, Have done the wiring as you described but I am unsure about the switch wiring buried in the dash and would like to establish if it has been wired wrongly before dismantling the dash again due to its awkward position , when the igniton is switched on I get 12v down the black /green,12v down the green and the black wire on the park system is also 12v, does this indicate correct wiring as nothing happens when I pull the switch, maybe the wiper motor is faulty? Thanks for your help Reuben

Hi Reuben,
Not quite sure what you mean when you say "live green/black to switch with ignition on"

The green/black wire should go from terminal 1 on the wiper motor direct to the wiper switch. The other side of the wiper switch should go direct to ground. The plain green wire goes from terminal 2 on the motor to the fuse unit, connecting to A4 which is only hot when the ignition is on. The "E" terminal on the motor can go directly to ground although in the similar Wolseley 15/50 it connects to the "E" terminal at the control box.

There is an article on the Magnette tech site that covers this including a diagram. Have a look here: www.zmagnettetech.info/maintenance/elect...r-self-park-problems
