Hi Rachel,

My door cards were badly water damaged before I restored them so I fitted a plastic membrane behind them. I also hardened the new millboard I used with wood hardener solution and waterproofed it with candle wax using a hot air gun. Belt and two pairs of braces!!.

You probably know that originally a felt underlay was installed under the carpet. Mine was badly damaged so I replaced it with a similar felt but I know some other restorers have used modern adhesive sound proofing materials. These were rather too expensive for my budget.

I now wish I had been able to afford better soundproofing. Since fitting polyurethane bushes to the suspension the road noise has increased significantly - a point to consider before going down the PU route. There may be alternative softer grades of PU, I don't know. For reference, I used Superflex brand bushes.

Andy

I am restoring my ZB and would like to ask is it a good idea to put anything behind the door cards before refitting ie plastic sheet. Also is it general to fit some sort of sound proof material under the carpet. If so what do you suggest. I am new to this so not really sure on best way to proceed with these items. Many thanks Rachel
