Solved the exhaust clamp problem by fitting and MGA manifold and bespoke engine pipe - perhaps a miniscule increase in power and torque, but the car is much more pleasant to drive.
Also had a new rear side plate made which locates both the plate and rubber seal positively. Thinking of having a batch made if there's any interest.

Has taken me all this time, but I have solved the exhaust problem (at last) by fitting an MGA manifold and having a local exhaust shop bend up a suitable pipe to link up with the existing exhaust from the gearbox to the rear of the car. Excellent job done, with no more leaks and just noticeable increase in mid-range performance. No doubt there is some more power available if I increase the diameter of the rear pipe.

Hi Stewart,
Sorry, I don't have any information at this point. I am currently preparing to fit an MGA manifold and engine pipe which has a far better connection set up than the standard system, but no progress as yet.
Regards,
David

The solution is to have a good rigid bracket to the gearbox bell housing, this relieves the manifold clamp of any movement or flexing, the rest of the exhaust system compensates for the engine movement.
Even with a bespoke fabricated manifold it must be firmly clamped to the gearbox bell housing.
